In April, we celebrated Autism and Neurodiversity Acceptance throughout our district by celebrating our unique strengths and inclusive practices. Activities throughout the week included morning announcements to educate the school community about Autism and Neurodiversity, read by our students each morning; team building activities to make connections between students (marshmallow towers), a kindness chain inspired by positive messages, weekly newsletters written by staff, for staff with tips on how to support neurodiverse learners, a flower garden showcasing all of our favorite things, read alouds featuring Autistic voices, and “chalk the walk” to write uplifting messages to each other and community. Each day was a different spirit day, inspired by ways to celebrate our students. Watch all of the fun here!
A huge thank you to our ASD teachers and related service providers who organized this and made it such a success!
