This year the students at Greenburgh Graham took part in a hands-on gardening project that connected them with nature and the community. They experimented with growing flowers for a community garden in partnership with Mr. James Judy and the Lenoir Preserve. Students began by planting seeds in our very own Graham Greenhouse, carefully tending to them as they sprouted, some thriving and some that did not. As the seeds and plants grew stronger, so did the students’ sense of responsibility and pride.
Once ready, the young plants were transferred to the Lenoir Preserve Community Butterfly Garden, where students worked together to plant them in the soil. Through this project, students not only learned about gardening, sustainability, and native plants but also experienced the joy gardening can bring as well as giving back to their community.
An enormous thank you to our community partners including James Judy and Rachelle Kritzer Fillipek, and Trish Lindeman and Maura May from Untermeyer Gardens who helped with initial planning and guidance.
Extra special thank you to our PT and OT Department clinicians, Rosie Puthiyamadam, Anthony Aguiar, Rachel Blitzer who led this project so successfully with Ms. Nass and Ms. Kelley's classroom staff!
