Current research and practical experience indicate that there are many benefits of supervised sports programs; they not only keep children safe and out of trouble, they open doors for many young people. Sports teams help prepare and empower young people for leadership in their communities and success in their personal lives. Student athletes are inclined to value physical health and better nutrition and are motivated to perform academically as well. They find positive role models in their coaches and often look to their teammates for support and encouragement. Our students, whose life circumstances rarely provide them with the chance to join a team, need this outlet to commune with a coach and feel the camaraderie of a team. A variety of competitive sports teams including basketball are available for student participation after school for those with the interest and inclination.
